Solid State Ionics and Electroceramics Research Group

The work in Prof. Sossina Haile's research group centers on ionic conduction in solids, with the twin objectives of understanding the mechanisms that govern ion transport, and applying such an understanding to the development of new solid electrolytes and advanced solid-state electrochemical devices. The most direct application of her work is in solid-state fuel cells, technologies which are critical for a sustainable energy future.

The activities of the group have recently broadened to include thermoelectric materials. This effort is led by faculty associate G. Jeffrey Snyder.
